FAQ
-
Can I watch my child? Swimming for the first time can be scary for little ones. Parents will be permitted to stay, but must remain in the designated area away from the pool. It is not unusual for a scared student to get out of the pool and run to a parent. If the student(s) do so, or are distracted by your presence, we will ask that you wait outside the fence so that yours, and other students can learn safely.
-
Where do I park? Janes Aquatics is my home. More importantly, it is next door to my neighbors’ homes -therefore, we ask that you park respectfully in the driveway or on the side of the road. Please do not leave tire ruts in the neighbor’s yards, and be mindful of traffic.
-
What Class do I belong in? If you are unclear what class to join, and the class descriptions don’t help, contact us at janesaquatics@gmail.com and we will make sure you’re in the right place.
-
Do you provide equipment? No. We can help guide you to choose the right goggles and SCUBA or snorkel equipment, though.
-
What about rain outs? We keep a close eye on the weather and will cancel class if there is lightning within 6 miles of the pool. If that happens, we will work with you to get you in the next available make-up class.
Helpful Tips
-
Swimming is a physically demanding sport, therefore, we suggest being well rested when you show up for class
-
The South Louisiana sun can be dangerous! Waterproof sunscreen or a rashgaurd / swim shirt are recommended to help prevent sunburn. Check out the Janes Aquatics store and order one of our swim shirts so you can take our mascot, sharky with you into the water! (COMING SOON!)
-
Hydrate! We sweat in the water without realizing it. Bring a water bottle and stay hydrated.
-
Goggles- one of the hardest things for new swimmers to do is get their face in the water. A good pair of goggles will make that a more pleasant experience. We recommend speedo vanquisher and vanquisher jr. goggles. Please adjust and test them in the bathtub prior to lessons.
-
SCUBA / Snorkel Reef Shark classes - all students must provide their own mask, fins, snorkel, and scuba gear. Get in touch, and an instructor will make suggestions for what equipment will fit your needs. We do business with and rent gear from Underwater Adventures on Government street.
-
Bull Sharks military prep - part of your drownproofing will require that you enter the pool fully dressed. If you already own fatigues, bring them. If not, please bring a set of long pants, long sleeve button-up shirt, and shoes that can get wet to class.
